| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How much leverage can I actually get? | It depends entirely on where you live. Retail caps are 30:1 in the UK and Australia, 20:1 in Singapore and 50:1 in the USA. Offering above those to residents of those countries requires an offshore entity, with the loss of protection that implies. |
| Does high leverage increase my profits? | It increases position size for a given deposit, which scales gains and losses equally while leaving costs and slippage unchanged. It does not improve the strategy underneath. |
| How quickly can a highly leveraged account be wiped out? | At 500:1, a 0.2% move against a fully leveraged position is a total loss — well inside the normal daily range of most major pairs, and inside a single minute during a news release. |
| Is negative balance protection offered on high-leverage accounts? | Often not. It is mandatory for retail accounts under the FCA and ASIC, but the offshore entities that offer very high leverage frequently exclude it, which means a gap through your stop can leave you owing money. |
