SEC Names Kathleen Hutchinson OIA Director

The Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed Kathleen M. Hutchinson as Director of its Office of International Affairs, a role she had already held on an acting basis since January 2025.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed Kathleen M. Hutchinson as Director of the Office of International Affairs. She previously served as Acting Director of OIA since January 2025, having held the acting director role twice.

Career at the SEC

Hutchinson began her career at the SEC in 2003 as an attorney-advisor in the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. That office has since been renamed the Division of Examinations. She joined the Office of International Affairs in 2008. Over the course of her tenure she has held the positions of Deputy Director and Assistant Director.

Education and Early Career

Hutchinson holds a J.D./M.A. from American University's Washington College of Law and School of International Service. She began her legal career in private practice in Washington D.C. and New York City.

The Office of International Affairs advises the Commission on international policy matters, coordinates with foreign authorities, and provides technical assistance.
