SEC's Sam Waldon to Depart, Osman Nawaz Named Successor

Sam Waldon, Principal Deputy Director of the SEC's Division of Enforcement, will depart the agency on July 31, 2026, according to a press release dated July 22, 2026. Osman Nawaz, who rejoined the SEC last month, will succeed him as Principal Deputy Director.

Waldon's Career at the SEC

Waldon began his career at the agency as a staff attorney, later serving as chief counsel from 2022 through 2024.

He then served as acting deputy director from October 2024 to January 2025, and as acting director of enforcement on two occasions in 2025 and 2026.

Waldon holds a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and a bachelor's degree in economics from Virginia Tech.

In 2011, he received the Philip A. Loomis, Jr. Award.

Osman Nawaz's Background

Nawaz previously worked at the SEC from 2010 to 2024, holding roles including staff attorney, Assistant Regional Director, and Chief of the Complex Financial Instruments Unit.

He rejoined the SEC last month and will now serve as Principal Deputy Director.
