MedPark wins top 5 Leaves in Newsweek green hospital ranking

• The ranking was launched in 2026 and assessed more than 4,000 hospitals worldwide.

MedPark Hospital received the highest 5 Leaves performance indicator in World’s Greenest Hospitals 2026, a ranking compiled by Newsweek and Statista. The award was issued in 2026 and positioned the hospital among the strongest performers on sustainability.

Ranking scope

The ranking was launched for the first time in 2026. It assessed more than 4,000 hospitals worldwide before narrowing the field to 250 hospitals from 36 countries that met the criteria.

The assessment framework used six pillars. Sustainability Performance Data carried a 40% weight and covered energy use, renewable energy, greenhouse-gas emissions, water management, waste reduction and recycling, pollution and chemicals, procurement and supply chains, and governance and strategy.

MedPark measures

MedPark said its sustainability work began at the design stage of the building. It cited the building’s orientation, efforts to reduce heat gain and the use of materials intended to improve energy efficiency.

The hospital also said the building has LEED Gold certification and is designed as a positive pressure building with outdoor air units and high-efficiency filtration.

MedPark said its 2025 energy use per revenue fell 2.71% from 2024. It also said energy use per area dropped 7.6%, and overall greenhouse-gas emissions fell 6.3% in the year.

The hospital said it adjusted the use of anaesthetic gases and developed telemedicine for some patient groups. It also said it reuses some treated wastewater for cooling and green areas.

MedPark said non-hazardous waste recovery reached 29.4% and that it wants to lift that to 40% by 2029. It also said 28% of its procurement was under efforts to source environmentally friendly goods, while 41% of suppliers shared sustainability policies.

MedPark said it also ranked among Thailand’s best hospitals in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 for the fifth consecutive year.
