Shipment Milestone

STMicroelectronics has shipped its 10 millionth automotive SafeSense by ST image sensor. The company trades as NYSE: STM.

New Sensor: VD56GA

STMicroelectronics introduced the ST SafeSense VD56GA, a 1.1 MP automotive image sensor for infrared in-cabin sensing. Samples of the VD56GA are available now.

The VD56GA uses a new backside-illuminated pixel architecture called ST DeepNIR, optimized for infrared imaging. It supports RAW and YUV output formats. The sensor ships in a 3.7 mm x 3.2 mm CSP package.

Manufacturing

Front-end manufacturing for the VD56GA takes place in Crolles, France. Packaging occurs in Asia.

Embedded Processing

The VD56GA includes embedded image processing features covering mirror, crop, dark calibration, auto exposure, and piecewise-linear processing.

Executive Comment

In-cabin sensing is moving beyond premium platforms, and carmakers need cost-effective solutions they can deploy broadly.
