ECB raises key rates by 25 bps as inflation outlook worsens

The ECB Governing Council raised its three key interest rates by 25 basis points on 10 September 2026, taking the deposit facility rate to 2.50%.

The ECB’s Governing Council raised the three key ECB interest rates by 25 basis points on 10 September 2026. It said the move reflected a deteriorating inflation outlook and continued inflation pressures from the conflict in the Middle East.

The deposit facility rate rose from 2.25% to 2.50%. The Council said the decision was robust across its milder, adverse and severe scenarios.

Respondents

The decision was taken by the Governing Council of the European Central Bank. The meeting was held in Berlin on 9-10 September 2026.

Members supported the proposal by Mr Lane to raise rates. The account lists President Ms Lagarde, Vice-President Mr Vujčić and the other Council members present.

Effective

The rate increase takes effect on 10 September 2026, the date of the press conference statement. The Council said future interest-rate decisions will remain data-dependent and meeting by meeting, without pre-commitment to a rate path.
