ESMA names Carlos San Basilio to Management Board
ESMA has appointed Carlos San Basilio of Spain’s CNMV to its Management Board, replacing Carlo Comporti ahead of his move to ESMA chair on 1 November.
- Election took place in Paris on 6 October 2026.
- San Basilio joins the board from CNMV.
- Comporti steps down from the board to become ESMA chair effective 1 November.
Action
The European Securities and Markets Authority appointed Carlos San Basilio of Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores as the new member of its Management Board.

The election took place at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Paris on 6 October 2026.
Respondents
San Basilio replaces Carlo Comporti of Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa.
Comporti will step down from the board to assume his new role as ESMA chair, effective 1 November.
Effective
From 1 November 2026, the Management Board will include Carlo Comporti, Thorsten Pötzsch, Carlos San Basilio, Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani, Christopher P. Buttigieg, Peter Tkáč, Armi Taipale, Natasha Cazenave, Vojtěch Belling and a European Commission representative.
Natasha Cazenave is ESMA executive director and a non-voting member. Vojtěch Belling is ESMA vice-chair and an observer.
