ECB survey: credit terms eased for fourth straight quarter

ECB says credit terms and conditions eased slightly across all counterparty types in the September 2026 SESFOD survey, with demand for securities financing rising and initial margins falling in parts of OTC derivatives.

It said credit terms and conditions eased slightly for all counterparty types for a fourth consecutive quarter, mainly through price terms.

The survey covered changes between June and August 2026.

Respondents

The ECB said the survey was based on responses from 26 large banks.

That included 14 euro area banks and 12 banks with head offices outside the euro area.

Effective

Respondents expected a further slight overall easing for all counterparty types over the following three months.

The ECB said hedge funds’ use of leverage increased slightly. It also said the volume and duration and persistence of counterparty valuation disputes were unchanged.

Penalty
