ESMA seeks views on tokenised collateral in CCP clearing

The European Securities and Markets Authority launched a Call for Evidence on the potential use of tokenised collateral by central counterparties.

ESMA said it wants evidence on whether tokenised collateral could be used safely and effectively by EU CCPs, and under what conditions.
Respondents
ESMA is inviting all interested stakeholders to submit contributions through its consultation webpage.
The call covers tokenisation models including digital twins, assets issued directly on distributed ledger technology, and hybrid arrangements.
Effective
Responses are due by 15 January 2027.
ESMA said responses will be published after the consultation closes unless respondents request otherwise.
The authority said it will assess feedback in the first quarter of 2027 before deciding the next course of action.
Penalty
No penalty was announced.
